As part of a regular series, Calcbench will publish articles that will explain the power of data in decision making. One of the things that we will try to illustrate is how XBRL based analysis may be used to identify firms that the market has not yet recognized.

We took year end 2014 data and followed a recipe to come up with a list of firms for further analysis. We found that the median 2 year revenue growth for the firms in this list was more than 300%!

  • Take all non-financial firms that reported full year 2014 revenues of $100 million dollars or less.
  • Next, take these firms and collect 2013 and 2012 full year revenues
  • Calculate a compound annual growth rate for revenues for this list
  • Sort the list and report the top 100 firms.
